Magazine issue 1-2014: International expansion

China – a growth market for retailers

Production companies are increasingly buying from “the East”, particularly China, India and countries in Eastern Europe. As part of this, they are relying more and more on strategic buyers on the ground and that poses a challenge for the procurement organisation.

Moreover the Chinese government is planning extensive reforms to stimulate private consumption. For German retailers, this offers unique opportunities for expansion in the country. Well founded expertise in store construction and international procurement deliver lasting success for retailers in China.

This first edition of our client magazine in 2014 comes complete with a brand newlook and gives an insight into the challenges that buyers and supply chain managers will face this year. These include increasing internationalisation in the procurement sector, a trend which shows no signs of abating and is bringing changes to procurement organisations. It’s becoming more and more common for strategic buyers and supply chain managers to be located in branches abroad rather than the company headquarters, partly so that they can react to the growing dynamics in many low cost countries. Against this backdrop, we conducted a study to examine what challenges this will bring for production companies. We also turn our attention to China and report on how legislative reforms are influencing the retail trade. Internationalisation isn’t the only issue on the agenda, classic topics such as procurement optimization are still important, too. We asked decision-makers in hospitals how they achieve and secure successful savings, and produced a benchmarking report for clinics in the U.K.
