Procurement & Supply Chain Optimization for the Logistics and Infrastructure Industry
Significant Savings on Logistics and Infrastructure
Increasing deregulation, growing globalisation and rising environmental awareness: procurement in the logistics and infrastructure sector must increasingly adapt to new conditions. We support our clients to best organize their procurement and supply chain management organization and processes for the future.
Increasing complexity in the logistics industry
The logistics industry is no longer limited to the transport of goods; it now includes services beyond product commissioning and transport as part of supply chain optimization. Close IT and technical interaction with clients’ production systems is imperative, increasing the related requirements and making them much more complex.
Political regulations dictate procurement in the infrastructure sector
Companies in the infrastructure sector have very specific challenges. The energy industry, for example, has to cope with politically managed changes in energy policy. The business-side adjustment processes are therefore significantly slower than required by the political process. This means that energy companies are subject to unprecedented savings pressure. Procurement is subject to the same pressure and must contribute to the transformation of the company.
We help companies to optimize and adjust their supply chains and generate savings that allow them to overcome upcoming challenges for the long term.
How do we do it?
In our potential analysis, we identify what optimization potential can be implemented in your procurement and supply chain management and to what extent your processes can be optimized for a long-term, efficient organization. For this purpose, we analyse relevant procurement goods and processes in your company.
Our benchmarking approach compares the data collected during our analysis to the industry average, best practice or your competitors. In addition, our potential analysis draws on our extensive project experience and our database. We also identify your procurement operations using selected interviews. From this information, we derive realistic potential for improvement within your company and reinforce it with appropriate procurement strategies. Wherever possible, we quantify this improvement potential and prioritise various measures and activities.
Implementation is based on the results of our analysis, after the strategies presented in the potential analysis are detailed and developed. Among other measures, standardisation, value analysis, supplier reduction and the implementation of global sourcing concepts are used to implement strategies. The next step is identifying and qualifying suitable suppliers. If your strategic implementation also includes tendering, we carry this out efficiently using our specially designed e-contor software.
If necessary, we can perform negotiations on your behalf to secure the best terms and savings for your company. If organizational adjustments are required for sustainability reasons, we develop a suitable concept for you. We will support you right up to the implementation of your new processes and/or until you have completed the transition to your new suppliers.
In addition to changes to the organization, the result of our projects include contracts with suppliers, which permanently secure your target savings and optimum quality standards.
Exemplary experience in the energy industry
The energy transition means that energy providers are facing the considerable challenge of completely restructuring themselves and preparing for major changes. In the past, competitive suppliers have announced their withdrawal from business areas that are no longer promising. As a result, a previously oligopolistic procurement market becomes polypolistic, and it no longer comes down to achieving absolute savings; it is more about preventing price increases and, in some cases, even preserving whole supplier markets to secure one’s own operational readiness.
Supplier market developments should therefore be under constant surveillance and considered when assessing potential savings. We face these developments with intelligent supplier management, which serves the purpose of a permanent and reliable supplier partnership to establish a win-win situation for both parties.
Reforming your supplier portfolio
The trend in the energy industry of focusing on renewable energy and/or promoting the dismantling of old plants is resulting in new challenges for procurement. To remain competitive, existing supplier portfolios should be reformed and new suppliers must be found and qualified. Supplier scouting is required to identify innovative suppliers.
Professional support for developing and coaching procurement management
Procurement has a new meaning, and it has a clearly defined role in the context of business transformation. We accompany procurement organizations on this journey by taking on suitable procurement tasks or actively coaching procurement employees.
As the energy transition and the implementation of technological innovations require considerable investments, we can provide effective support for procurement within individual projects. At the beginning of such a project, specification is a challenge. We work in cross-functional teams to play a facilitative role and bring about a balance of interests between the departments involved. We also actively support you during the ensuing strategic procurement processes and help you to comply with agreed budgets and achieve the price expectations of your customers. We are prepared to vary our fee according to the success of our consulting services.
- Sustainable, measurable savings on the entire procurement volume, increasing your profits
- A future-oriented supplier portfolio
